Originally formed in 1937 as the Corps’s ﬁrst tank company, the outﬁt had been redesignated in November. The scout company was uniquely designed for a form of mobile warfare like the army was planning, especially after observing the actions of the German army in the opening blitzkrieg campaigns of the war in Europe.
